Chinese New Year celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar and is one of the most important holidays celebrated in China. The holiday is also recognised worldwide in other regions and has influenced neighbouring cultures.

The lunar calendar also repeats a 12-year cycle of zodiac animal signs and their recognised attributes, which govern the year. People born in a given year are also believed to have the personality of that year's animal.

When is Chinese New Year 2022?

This year, Chinese New Year falls on Tuesday 1st February. The lunar month falls between 21st January and 20th February each year.

Customs

When sending a parcel to China, an essential rule is that your customs document is filled out accurately. All items received over in China must be cleared through Customs. Your customs documents will determine how much tax/duties will need to be paid, so it is essential to fill the form correctly to avoid delays.

If you're sending a gift under the value of £155, no duties or tax will be applied to your total parcel value. In this instance, you should declare your package as an unsolicited gift on your customs forms.
