6th September 2022, 11:11am in Lifestyle by Amy Newham

As we approach the year's final quarter, we enter the most popular months for charity fundraising!

You only have to run a quick Google search to discover hundreds of awareness days running throughout the United Kingdom and worldwide. Here are a few upcoming awareness events this September:

  • Blood Cancer Awareness Month 2022 (1st - 30th September)
  • World Alzheimer's Month 2022 (1st - 30th September)
  • Sexual Health Week 2022 (12th- 18th September)
  • Jeans for Genes Day 2022 (19th- 25th September)
  • Recycle Week 2022 (19th – 25th September)

Whether you're an experienced fundraiser or just getting started, we have put together a list of charity event ideas you can try with friends and family. Plus, advice on how to send prizes and auction items with affordable courier services!

Ten fundraising ideas:

1) Host an afternoon tea

Whether you fancy yourself as a star baker or a bit of whisk-taker, you could organise a delicious afternoon tea. Ask friends, family and neighbours to bring along their signature dish and charge everyone a small donation fee to enjoy the afternoon. You could even vote for your favourite baked goods and feel like Prue and Paul!

2) Trivia Quiz

I'm sure many of us are familiar with the infamous Zoom quizzes of 2020 but why not mix it up and run a trivia quiz for charity? You or a group of friends could put together an immense selection of trivia questions and games for in-person and online entertainment.

3) Karaoke night

Karaoke for charity

Prep your vocal cords… it's karaoke time! Belting out banger after banger and raising money for charity- what could be better? A bit different to other fundraising activities, karaoke appeals to all ages and is a great way to break the ice if you're raising money with colleagues.

4) Take part in an Arts and crafts fair

If you're artistically inclined, you could sell your artwork, knits, and crafts at local car boot sales or existing craft fairs and donate the profits to your chosen charity. You could even get other local businesses to get involved.

If you only sell online, for example, on eBay or Not On The High Street, you could sell a percentage or all of the proceeds you make in the next month.

You can connect your ecommerce website or online store with our Shipping Manager and benefit from our free business tools to streamline your shipping experience by managing your orders in one place.

5) Book sale

Book sales are great activities for the whole family to get involved with, especially the kids. All profits go to charity and everyone has a new novel to read! Ask around and see if anyone is happy to donate any old books they no longer want and set up a stall, perhaps at their school or local community centre.

6) Exercise challenge

Charity run

For fitness fanatics, why not get sponsored for completing a sporting challenge? You could choose a walk-a-thon, dance marathon, football tournament, bike race or even a half marathon.

7) Local trade auction

Get the neighbours together and share local skills through a trade auction like plastering, gardening, painters etc., to the highest bidder. If you don't have a trade, you could always offer your help through food shop trips, dog walking or baking.

8) Bingo night

Two little ducks…22! A bingo night fundraiser is a relatively simple way to raise money for charity but requires a little bit of planning, so best to enlist some help from friends! Hire a large room with tables, bring in some supplies and a caller and you can publicise the event online to attract people of all ages to participate.

9) Organise a raffle/jumble sale

Charity raffle

Jumble sales are another excellent opportunity for a declutter and you can turn them into a raffle. Local businesses are often happy to donate prizes too. If some of the prizes are large or awkwardly-shaped, it's worth knowing you can cheaply send them later, which helps open up raffle prize ideas.

Equally, if you want to reach more people, you could host an online raffle and send the prizes out using one of our low-cost parcel delivery services starting from only £1.75 plus VAT!

10) Zero waste for a week

We could all do a bit more to help reduce our waste- why not make a point of it and set yourself a challenge for zero waste for a week? Say no to straws, use reusable water bottles and bags and ditch plastic packaging. You could even go further to organise a litter pick or beach clean in your local community!
